Getting Around Halifax

Visitors to Halifax will find that traveling around the city is easy. Many places of interest in Halifax can be reached by public transportation.

Airline passengers can take Airporter shuttle buses from Halifax Stanfield International Airport to hotels in downtown Halifax. Taxis and limos are other options for ground transportation from the airport.

Travelers who arrive in Halifax by train will find themselves within walking distance of several hotels in downtown Halifax. Those who are staying outside of the downtown area will be able to take taxis or buses from the train station to their hotels.

Visitors who are staying in at hotels in downtown Halifax will be able to walk to several of the city's attractions. Museums in the downtown area include the Museum of Natural History and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Halifax Common is a park in the downtown area. The Halifax Public Gardens are a short walk or bus ride away from the downtown area. There are shops and restaurants at the Historic Properties on the edge of the downtown area.

Downtown Halifax is served by over 15 bus routes. Many of these routes have stops within a couple blocks of the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. A number of routes stop near Brunswick Street close to the main downtown area. Tourists can take buses from downtown to several of the city's attractions. The Cole Harbour Heritage Farm can be reached by taking the 59, 61 or 68 buses from downtown. The farm has historic buildings and gardens.

Shoppers can take the 17, 20 or 80 buses to reach the Halifax Shopping Centre. The 51 bus will take tourists from downtown to the stores and restaurants at Bayers Lake Business Park.

Buses from the downtown area will take visitors to the beaches at Point Pleasant Park and Chocolate Lake.

Tourists can take ferries from the terminal in downtown Halifax to see historic properties in Dartmouth. Fisherman's Cove near Dartmouth can be reached by taking buses and a ferry. This village can also be reached by taking two buses. There are specialty shops, restaurants and a boardwalk in Fisherman's Cove.
